PAIN - A Motivational Tool for Growth & Healing

I’m not a fan of pain or suffering. I love comfort, ease, and bliss. For as long as I can remember, I’ve sought to minimize the presence of pain in my life.
And yet, discomfort, stress, and suffering are undeniably part of the human experience. Still, I intuitively believe they’re not meant to be our permanent state. I’ve always felt that our true nature is rooted in joy, balance, and peace.
Very early on, I found tools that helped me return to that natural state. In fourth grade, after reading a book called Yoga for Young People, I began exploring yoga asanas, breathwork, and meditation. These practices became a lifelong sanctuary — my go-to methods for transforming and transcending life’s pain.
After 20 years of casually sharing yoga, I formally studied with the Sivananda lineage and served as ashram staff until 2003. After leaving, I began working one-on-one with professional women in New York who were seeking to reclaim their wellbeing through these ancient practices.
One of my first clients, a Harvard-trained neuropsychologist, came to me after a serious car accident and multiple spinal surgeries. She was reliant on pain medication and unable to work — but she was determined to heal. Together, we created a restorative program of meditation and breathwork. Within three months, she was off her medications and had returned to her professional life — an incredible testament to the power of commitment and self-healing.
Pain can be a messenger — a signal that something needs attention or change. When approached with awareness and the right tools, pain can become a motivational force for healing, growth, and positive transformation.
